Colour Magic

Last week during Science Day, the whole school participated in a number of different science experiments. In Miss Mayor’s class we engaged in an experiment called ‘Colour Magic’. It involved skittles, water and a sugar cube. We made predictions about what we thought would happen when we put the skittles in the water.

“I think the colour of the skittles will mix because the water spreads it” – Zain

“I think it is going to spread the colour” – Tiana

“I think it’s going to be like rainbow shapes” – Maria

After our predictions, we conducted the experiment and observed what happened.

We then made predictions about what we thought would happen when we place a sugar cube in the middle of the bowl.

“I think the sugar cube will absorb the colour of the skittles from the water”

We watched the sugar cube push the colour away.

We discovered that higher concentration of sugar (sugar cube) pushes lower concentrations of sugar (skittle colour) outwards.

We had so much fun doing this experiment! It was so cool! 🙂
