Our focus this term has been to add sound effects to poems such as “The Horseman”, songs and scenes like “The beach”. We have use our knowledge of how different instruments work to add atmosphere and then linked in vocal sound effects. W have used “mime” to match music creating a “Four Seasons Ballet”.
We have finished off the term rehearsing our dances and finally filming them in front of the green screen. We have been practising ‘how to be a good audience’ and focused on ‘what good TEAMWORK looks, sounds and feels like’.
Students have been working in small groups to choreograph a dance. They have had to focus on a number of choreographic devices such as timing, cannons, locomotor movements, isolation and freestyle. They have been using an assessment matrix to assist in self reflection and peer feedback. Teamwork and how to work with others has been a big focus over the last couple of weeks as each group works out how to make the best use of their time and create their best dance together.
Dances are being filmed and preformed in front of other members of the class to give a realistic performance feel to their dance creation and to assist in self reflection and assessment.
Wow, what a great night. It was so much fun interacting with the student’s and their families as they participated in a number of Performing Arts activities. Families were able to watch different classes performing on the TV’s, try a number of different drama and music activities, view our amazing talents and experiences on the many posters and create their own movie. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped on the night.
During this term students have been working on their “Curiosity’ in dance.
Each class began the term by creating a list of wonderings. In year 3/4 the students were interested in Hip Hop dancing and curious about how they can use their bodies to express emotions. We learnt some basic Hip Hop dance moves and choreographic language such as ‘canon’ and ‘locomotor movement’ and used these to create a dance to Bars and Melody’s song ‘Hopeful’. We discussed the meaning of the song and how the issue of ‘bullying’ can affect people. At the end of each lesson we videoed our routine so we could track our progress and use a variety of self-reflection and feedback tools.
This term we have been focusing on drama and drama skills. These have included voice projection, creating a character, blocking (where we stand, enter and exit a stage) and production tasks such as sound engineer, backdrops, props and costumes. We have been working in small groups to create a play and add our own touches to it, before we film and share these with our Buddy Classes.
To prepare for our plays we have also been working on our teamwork and drama skills through warms ups such as “I am a…”, Mime relay and Time Machine were we work as a group to create a scene.
We also had a greta time with the non campers playing drama games such as First Line and Mime Relay, the students showed great imagination in presenting short improvised plays.

For the last two weeks we have been looking at Australian Bush Dances. We learnt the dances to the “heel and toe”, “shearers skip” and others. We looked at a range of different steps such as the “doe si doe”, left and right elbow spins and marching. After practising a variety of steps we then created our own “Bush Dance”. This was a fantastic experiences and the dances created were amazing.
