Batik painting- Nature in Art

This term we have experimented with Baitk painting. This Art style is a traditional art form in many Asian countries and is used to decorate fabrics that are turned into clothes. Our paintings were inspired by nature and we used primary colours to mix secondary colours with fabric paint. Fabric paint is runny ahd hard to control so they were a real challenge to paint. The outlines of our work were painted with cold wax- (Batik is usually done with hot wax but our pictures have the same effect as ones made using hot wax). We think our effects are really beautiful, what do you think?

Environment- Green bag designs

This term we have been looking at environmental issues in Art to come up with designs for our own environmentally friendly green bag. First we brainstormed environmental issues that we could use to inspire our designs. We then sketched our ideas on paper using pencils and came up with a message to put on our bags.

The designs were drawn onto the bags using special fabric markers and pastels so that they can’t wash out.

We think that there are many really great designs with very powerful environmental messages on them. Have they made you think about how you can help to fix an environmental issue? We hope that our bags will make people think more about the things in our lives that impact on our environments.  

Totem pole Installation

We finally created our installation for the Specialist showcase and it looked amazing! The hardest part was working out how we wanted to arrange our work. We had to work together as a class and we decided that we were going to arrange them in order from largest to smallest. After taking some time to work this out we used blue tack to stand our totem poles on the tables. Specialist Showcase- Artrooms

We were so happy to see so many families come to see the work of students on display at the Specialist Showcase this year. Parents and students were able to come into the Art rooms and participate in a variety of activities such as mindfulness Mandala colouring, Pop Art murals painting, bubble art and experimental painting using mineral paper and inks. Everyone had a great time spending time together and making some very creative Art. Some of the Pop Art Murals from the night of the showcase still need some work. If you want to help finish them come to Art club during blue school timetable at lunchtime and give us a hand to finish them. See below for the pictures of what kids and families created.

We have been curious about installations and what kind of art works they are. We have discovered that Installations are artworks that becomes part of a space or an environment and can be made by one or more artists. We made Totem poles out of tubes that represent each one of us and we plan on creating a class installation using everyone’s artwork. We were inspired by the Aboriginal memorial Totem pole installation at the National Gallery of Australia. We hope our installation demonstrates our ability to work as a team and our school values of respect, responsibility and achievement. Look out for our installation around the school, it will be finished soon.

Survival of Ancient Egypt

This term in Visual Arts we have been exploring all the wonderful artifacts that have survived in Ancient Egypt. We made  Egyptian Pharaoh necklaces out of board, gold paint and foil paper. The Pharaohs were the Kings and Queens of Ancient Egypt and they wore very elaborate and beautiful jewellery to show how powerful the were. Many of these pieces of jewellery were found in the tombs of the Pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings where the pyramids were built. This is how we know what kind of things they wore. Survival of Ancient cultures- How do we learn things about ancient cultures and how they survived?

This term we have been making hieroglyphic drawings and learning about  how they were a written language. The ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphics to write about the history of Ancient Egypt. We learnt to make our own coded messages and wrote our names using them. They were really hard to draw and the ancient Egyptian scribes, who were special writers, must have been really good at writing because each letter was so hard to draw. When we finished our coded messages we decorated the boarders in gold. The ancient Egyptians loved gold and only very important people like Pharaohs who were like Kings and Queens wore lots of gold.

ANZAC Day paintings- The surviving memory of the ANZACS

In Year 3&4 Art we explored the Anzac legend and the importance of commemorating the soldiers who did not come home. We decided to make some memorial paintings for our whole school Anzac service during assembly. The paintings incorporated symbols such as the poppies, and crosses that represent the graves of lost soldiers. We used water colours paint sunsets and when our paper was dry we painted the details over our sunsets in dark  silhouettes. We think they are a great way to commemorate the Anzacs. My identity sculptures

In year 3&4 Art we have been busy creating paper sculptures using the letters of our names. We have explored design elements such as Line, shape, colour and texture to create designs that represent how we see ourselves. We created drawings using the design elements that we think show our personalities. Colours, lines and and shapes all have a way of expressing our feelings and these feelings are part of our identity. We used paper, hot glue, pencils and markers to complete our fantastic identity sculptures. It was hard building them because we had to balance all our pieces on top of each other and that took time and patience. We think we have done an amazing job. What do you think?
